The church at Smyrna was suffering for the Lord’s purposes; not because they did anything wrong; it was His plan to bring about a sweet fragrance from their lives. He would give them the strength to endure and their reward for conquering would be greater than any glory this world has to offer. Satan conceived a plan, the Jews carried out the plan on his bequest, but Jesus was sovereign over the entire affair and used their tribulation to accomplish His will.
