The letter to the church at Pergamum reminds us that any form of spiritual compromise will inevitably lead to moral compromise. The Lord desires us to be found not in our works for Him but in His Name, in His faith, as His faithful witness. Jesus wants to be all of that for us. Satan will attempt to persecute us; and when that does not work to compromise us through our cultural connection. It will start innocent and quickly move to capture us in the seductions of our surroundings. But if we conquer He will be our daily life and sustenance and He will even give us a new name.
