We get another amazing glimpse of Jesus through images, numbers, and colors; all of which will be used in conveying his message to the 7 churches. To the church at Ephesus Jesus opposes the “religion” of Christianity that is based on service, duty, and obedience. From our perspective and based on their spiritual resume, they were an active and amazing church; but Jesus was not impressed. He said they had fallen and were still living in a fallen state where they had abandoned His agape love. Their works were not birthed from faith but from religion. Only God can do the “good” works that will produce agape love; all their attempts to be “good” failed miserably no matter how impressive the outcomes. Only God is good.
