John sees the complete gathering of the church (the temple) and in the temple was the Ark of the Covenant which confirms that God has fulfilled all of His promises to His chosen ones. Then we see Israel (as a woman) about to give birth to the Messiah. Satan tries to thwart His birth and kill the child by influencing Herod to slaughter all the children. God warns Joseph and he flees and the child, the Messiah, is safe. We see Satan as a dragon as the one who deceived 1/3 of the angels to follow him.
