John 4: 1-26

Mar 2 2008 in
Gospel of John

When Jesus walked to Galilee through Samaria and encountered the woman at the well, He broke many religious taboos of the day. In his unwavering adherence to the Father's will, he traveled through Samaria, though that country was off-limits to any self-respecting Jew. Also, it was considered indecent to talk to a woman alone - and the woman He chose was a social outcast! Yet regardless of her heritage, gender, and social standing, Jesus chose her as the first one to whom He would reveal Himself as the I AM, the Messiah. Showing her the truth of her own desolate and lonely condition, He offered her the spring of living water which would forever end her spiritual thirst. This is also what Jesus offers to all of us, regardless of our disgrace or weakness: the living water of the Holy Spirit, which lives in unceasing worship and grants eternal peace.
