These verses shed light on how ministry works when it is truly led by God. When John's disciples told him that Jesus had come and that His ministry was drawing followers, he did not fret about the success of his own ministry. Rather than worrying about his own gain from a worldly perspective, he responded out of joy that more souls were being saved, and restated that he was not an equal to Christ, who came from heaven. He was willing to decrease so that Christ might increase. This illustrates our own walk with God; we must be willing to do His will and accept that the results are in His hands. As we stop worrying about our our own glory and achievement, and instead give glory to God by fulfilling the will of His Spirit, we live in the
constant joy and peace of knowing our eternal right standing with God.
