John 2:23 to 3:8

Gospel of John

Why didn't Jesus entrust himself to men, even those who believed in Him? He understood, as the scriptures say, that man's heart is full of evil and deceit - and that it never ceases to oppose and hate God. This strikes at the core of our beliefs about our good nature and intentions, attacking our pride, our feelings, our logic, and our dreams. In view of God's perfection we are all hopelessly selfish and evil, and no amount of work we do can be pleasing to Him. That is why we must learn to hate everything that stems from our Old Man, regarding all that proceeds from our own heart and soul to be useless. We must consistently choose God's wisdom over our own, making His Word our priority and authority. In remaining humble and loyal to our Lord, we open our hearts to His Spirit, which by its nature obeys His law and recreates us in His likeness.
