The story of Jephthah teaches us that we must know our God. We cannot blend our God with any other religious constructs or the consequences to us personally can be disastrous. We cannot forget what God has done for us and the mighty ways He has revealed Himself. He wants us to know Him. He wants us to know His character and nature and trust ourselves to Him. He is faithful; faithfulness defines Him.
